Gagik Tsarukyan gives a high importance to sport and its role in shaping healthy body and spirit. Gagik Tsarukyan – President of the Armenian National Olympic Committee (ANOC) considers making Republic of Armenia an international center of sport events as a prior matter.
By the efforts of Gagik Tsarukyan from January 17 to 20 of the current year International rating tournament of Alpine skiing was held for the first time in Tsaghkadzor, where 28 sportsmen from 10 countries participated.
Under the high patronage of Gagik Tsarukyan - President of ANOC, for the first time in Boxing history World Youth Boxing Championship will beheld in Yerevan from May 22 to 30 in the Sport and Concert Complex after Karen Demirtshyan.
Gagik Tsarukyan widely supports sportsmen and sportswomen who perform under RA flag in International Olympic Games. Armenian athletes showed excellent results in Beijing Summer Olympic Games. They returned with 6 bronze medals, while in World Chess Olympiad that took place in Dresden, Armenian chess players once again proved that they have no equal competitors in the whole world. All sportsmen and sportswomen who had shown high results in the international sphere were honored with encouraging presents and cash awards from Gagik Tsarukyan.

Gagik Tsarukyan himself had many achievements in sports. He was engaged in boxing and wrestling. In 1996 Gagik Tsarukyan became World Champion in Arm-wrestling. In 1998 he was once again considered the strongest in the Europe Arm-wrestling Championship.
Gagik Tsarukyan is the president of Armenian National Olympic Committee. On 4th of December, 2008 Gagik Tsarukyan was reelected as ANOC President by ANOC General Assembly unanimously.
